The short version

This site has no accounts and no adverts. It stores a few things in your own browser, and it uses Google Analytics to count visits.

What is stored in your browser

• Your cookie notice choice, so we do not show the notice every time.
• Which explainers you have read, so a "Read" badge can show on them. This list never leaves your browser.

Visit counting

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which explainers are useful. It sets cookies in your browser and sends information about your visit to Google, such as the pages you view, your approximate location and your device and browser type. We use it to understand how the site is used, not to identify you, and we do not use it for advertising.

To stop it, you can block cookies or analytics scripts in your browser settings, or use Google's browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics.
